Program Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate foundational knowledge of health promotion and disease prevention concepts

My clinical experience as a Physical Therapist Assistant has allowed me to apply health promotion principles directly to patient care through education, exercise, movement, injury prevention, and encouragement of healthy behaviors. My NAU coursework has expanded my understanding of health beyond treatment by emphasizing prevention, education, and the factors that influence health outcomes.

Understand the interconnectedness of personal, family, organizational, community, and societal health.

My education and professional experiences have shown me that health is influenced by much more than an individual's diagnosis. My work in healthcare, community service through NAU, and organizational leadership experiences have helped me understand how patients, families, healthcare teams, organizations, and communities influence one another.

Use effective writing and communication skills as a health professional

Communication has been one of the most important skills I have developed throughout my Allied Health education and professional career. I have applied these skills through academic writing, group projects, communication with faculty and classmates, patient education, clinical instruction, monthly journal club discussions, and my work facilitating communication between staff and leadership at UTMB.

PLO 4: Show awareness of leadership and interprofessional teamwork in health settings.

My professional experience has provided numerous opportunities to practice leadership and teamwork. I have served as a clinical instructor for three PTA students, facilitate a monthly journal club, contribute to workplace events and social media, and helped establish a closed-chain communication platform between staff and leadership. These experiences have reinforced my belief that effective healthcare depends on communication, collaboration, accountability, and respect among members of the team.

Demonstrate skills to sustain personal health and well-being.

Balancing my education, professional responsibilities, and family responsibilities has required me to develop organization, time management, resilience, and self-awareness. My experience has taught me that sustaining personal well-being is important not only for my own quality of life but also for my ability to be an effective healthcare professional, parent, mentor, and leader.
